Abi Dare - Girl with the Louding Voice
This book falls in the category of books that make you think about the plight of those less fortunate. The ‘louding voice’ is really a reference to speaking up for yourself, getting an education and aspiring to something more than answering to a master. Set in Nigeria, which we are told is the richest country in Africa, it tells the story of Adunni, who is illegally married off at just 14-years-old and then later forced into working as a slave-servant. Abi Dare does a great job in her depiction on personal relationships and interactions - truly engaging. And she tells a story with an important message, highlighting the (often hidden) deplorable practice of forced marriage and domestic slavery. Recommended - page turner, will keep you engaged to the last.
