Wool by Hugh Howey
Hugh Howey is a prolific writer. This is the first of his I’ve read, the first in a series of books depicting a dystopian near future where the atmosphere on the planet is toxic and society has moved underground, into a ‘Silo’ (hundreds of storeys deep) where the population has been for so long that they can remember nothing else. The question is: is there anything else out there? This is a tome (nearly 600 pages) but I flew through it. It’s one of those that keeps you up at night unable to put the thing down.
Dystopian thriller, containment, claustrophobia, and control of the masses through withholding of the truth – great ingredients and a recommended read.
